Media and community Case study
Member and event apps for a community software startup
Native iOS and Android apps with a web admin panel for community management: members, events, documents, chat, vendor offers and an ad module.

- REST APIs
- QuickBlox
- Push notifications
Overview
A platform for running a community such as a residents' association: a web admin panel plus native iOS and Android apps for members. We built the APIs, admin panel and both apps and handled store submissions, over about a year and a half.
The challenge
Admins, members, vendors and advertisers all use the same system with different permissions, so modules, roles and ad display had to be configurable rather than hard-coded.
What we built
- Backend APIs, database structure and a web admin panel
- iOS and Android apps with sign-up, sign-in, OTP verification and profiles
- Member management, events with categories, resources and reservations
- Document management: folders, upload and download, search and permissions
- Real-time one-to-one and group chat (QuickBlox)
- Push notifications and alerts to members
- Nearby stores, offers and sales, with vendor profiles and reviews
- An advertising module with a dedicated advertiser dashboard, dynamic ad display and impression tracking
- Dynamic module permissions and role-based access, then Play Store and App Store submission
How a system like this fits together
- Client side
- Services
- Data stores
- Third parties
In words: The iOS and Android apps and the web admin panel use REST APIs for members, events, documents and advertising, backed by a purpose-built database. QuickBlox provides one-to-one and group chat in the apps, and push notifications send alerts to members.
