Retail and eCommerce Case study
Hemag Nova AG: multi-store Magento 2 platform
A Magento 2 platform for several storefronts: custom shipping and product import modules, a partial Magento 1 migration, Algolia search and responsive theming.

Overview
Hemag Nova AG is a Swiss wholesale retailer with several online storefronts on Magento 2. We set up the platform, migrated part of an existing Magento 1 store, wrote custom modules and carried out ongoing design and functional changes for two and a half years.
The challenge
Several storefronts needed to share one codebase but look and behave differently, with product data, shipping rules and search kept consistent, while the client sent a steady stream of design and functional feedback.
What we built
- Magento 2.2 platform setup with parent theme inheritance and per-storefront customization
- Partial migration from Magento 1: products, attributes and reviews
- Custom modules for shipping, product import and update, sale category listings, quick order and staff management with permissions
- Algolia search and filtering on product listings
- Responsive fixes for headers, footers, category and product pages, cart and checkout
- Design implementation from HTML slicing, a store locator page and product page redesign
- Static content pages (FAQ, glossary), canonical tags and product-save speed improvements
- Work with third-party extensions including Amasty and Mageplaza
- An import feed that receives XML product data from a separate server
How a system like this fits together
- Client side
- Services
- Data stores
- Third parties
In words: Several storefronts run on one Magento 2 platform with parent theme inheritance. Magento is extended with custom modules (shipping, product import and update, quick order, staff management) and third-party Amasty and Mageplaza extensions, and stores data in MySQL. Algolia provides search and filtering on product listings, and a separate server sends XML product data to the import feed.
