React Native app development: one codebase for iOS and Android, with Expo and a back end to match

We build React Native apps for iPhone and Android, with Expo or the bare workflow, native modules where the device needs them, push notifications, in-app purchases and the API and admin behind the app. Our project records hold more than 25 React Native projects since 2017, all done by our in-house team, and you own the code we write for you.

Project counts come from our records; our first React Native project in them dates from 2017, and the company has been in business since 2005. The rest of the React Native projects are feature work, rescues and maintenance on existing apps.

What we build with React Native

Examples from our own projects, each linked to a case study.

Loyalty and consumer apps

Loyalty cards, rewards and lucky draws, sharing a typed API client with the web app. See Froono and the car-wash stamp card.

Apps that talk to devices

Bluetooth Low Energy connections to in-car hardware, with encryption and checksums. See Drive lah.

Messaging, calling and healthcare

Chat, SIP calling and healthcare data integrations across phones and tablets. See the healthcare messaging app and the SIP calling app.

Media and streaming

Streaming with background playback, a notification-bar player and offline downloads. See the music streaming app.

SDKs inside native apps

React Native modules embedded in existing iOS and Android apps, such as an authentication SDK. See the authentication SDK.

Rescues and Expo conversions

Broken builds, purchases and notifications put right, and Expo apps moved to the bare workflow. See the Expo conversion and the fitness app rescue.

When React Native fits

  • Your team or your web app already uses React and TypeScript
  • You want one codebase for iPhone and Android, and code shared with the web
  • You want Expo for quick builds, previews and store releases
  • The app needs device features that have maintained React Native modules

When something else fits better

  • You want identical pixel-level UI on every platform and are happy with Dart: Flutter
  • The app depends on heavy graphics or the newest platform APIs: native iOS and Android

What clients say

Jatinder has been a valuable team player and leader for us as we worked to develop our revolutionary technology. Recently, we integrated our software into Oracle's technology and our code went through and passed the Oracle review process for certification which is in large part due to Jatinder's talent, attention to detail and professionalism.

The highest recommendation for our software developers is to rehire them for future projects and Jatinder has earned this recognition more than any software developer on our team. We look forward to continuing to work with Jatinder in the future and delighted to be able to leave this positive feedback for him today as it has been so well deserved.

Manjinder has been great to work with on our project. He has been with us for over 3,000 hours of work and is one of the best programmers we have worked with on a project (we have worked with over 50 developers.) I highly recommend Manjinder from both a professional and personal level. He possesses superb ASP.net and SQL skills plus great communications skills making him the ideal candidate for any small, medium or large-scale development project.

Sarbjit did a great job moving our public blog from BlogEngine.NET to Wordpress. This migration contained a lot of complexities, users, comments and database structure that had to be moved and Sarbjit handled it masterfully. Thanks Sarbjit!

Frequently asked questions

Expo or bare React Native?

Expo where it fits: it speeds up builds and store releases. When a native library or build setting needs more control, we use the bare workflow; we have converted existing Expo apps, as in the Expo conversion.

Can a React Native app use Bluetooth, the camera and other device features?

Yes, through native modules. The Drive lah app talks to an in-car device over Bluetooth Low Energy with AES-CBC encryption and CRC checks.

Can the app share code with our website?

Yes. In Froono the Expo app and the React web app live in one monorepo and share a typed API client and validation schemas.

React Native or Flutter?

React Native when your team works in React and TypeScript or wants code shared with the web; Flutter when you want identical UI everywhere and are happy with Dart. We build with both and will say which we would choose for your app.

Can you take over an existing React Native app?

Yes. We start with a code and build review, fix what blocks releases, then agree upgrades and new features. See the fitness app rescue.

Do you sign an NDA, and who owns the code?

We sign an NDA before work starts, and you own the code we write for you.

How do I get a quote?

Use the form on this page or book a project call. Tell us about your app and what you need, and we come back with questions and next steps.

How can we work together?

There are three ways, on the same terms:

  • Dedicated team, best for ongoing work: interview the developers, then they work on your project full or part time.
  • Fixed scope, best when requirements are clear: we agree the scope and the price up front, and deliver against it.
  • Time and material, best when the scope will change: you pay for the time used and can change priorities as the work goes on.

Whichever you choose, we sign an NDA before work starts, you own the code we write, and every change is reviewed in your repository.

Can I interview the developers before we start?

Yes. For a dedicated team you meet the developers in an online call and interview them before they join your project.
